We FINALLY got to enjoy four full days of learning this week, and I’m hoping this coming week will allow your kindergarteners and I to spend a FULL week learning together!
OUR LEARNING:
Popcorn Words – Our popcorn words this week were “how,” “now,” “was,” “had,” and “bad.” We had some extra ground to cover from these past few weeks of snow days! The kids noticed that some of these words are in the same word families, too.
Math – This week in math, we practiced writing our numbers from 1-20, finding partners for numbers (ex: 3 and 4 are partners of 7), playing the “mystery partner” game with our buddies, and adding/subtracting numbers within 5. We will be wrapping up unit 3 this coming week.
Writing – We continued our unit: SMALL MOMENT WRITING. For this unit, students write a story about one small moment from their lives. This week, your kindergarteners drew the pictures, added labels, and wrote the sentences for their stories by themselves! WHAT!!! This is a big deal for our little writers, and they are working so hard at sounding out words and writing each day. We also got our own “Writing Binders” to store our writing pieces, along with some other writing resources.
Reading – In our new reading unit, we have been learning how to read challenging books! These books have more lines, longer words, and surprise endings. We’ve also activated our pattern power, which helps us notice the sentence patterns in some of our books!
CELEBRATIONS:
Top Frog – We loved having Miyah as our Top Frog this week. Henley will be our new top frog next week.
10 Star Reward – We celebrated our 10 star reward on Friday by having either a “Stuffed Animal” day or a “Crazy Sock/No Shoes” day! The kids had lots of fun celebrating their green choices and outstanding awards!
Valentine Party – Thank you so much to all of the parents who volunteered or donated to our Valentine Party on Thursday! The kids LOVED mailing their valentines, playing games, making crafts, and eating sweets (I’m so sorry for the sugar highs they may have incurred!)
Notes for Parents:
- Take-Home Books are in full swing. Please be sure to read these books with your child and return them to school on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays!
- Winter Gear: Please make sure your child is all bundled up and ready for the cold winter weather! We play out in the fields, and our playground does not get plowed, so please make sure to send your kindergartener in snow pants, boots, mittens, a hat, and a coat on cold winter days! Thanks for your help. 🙂
